October has long been my favourite month of the year. There are several family birthdays, Thanksgiving the second weekend of the month and of course, Halloween on the 31st. Thanksgiving is unknown on this side of the Atlantic and Halloween is tolerated with pockets here and there of enthusiasts for the spooky season.

After that, despite the clocks going back an hour (a practice I WISH would stop, this isn't the 19th century any more), the daylight hours get progressively shorter and the cold, damp weather increases.

Its been usually warm and for the first two weeks of the month, dry and sunny. With the exception of the temps being higher than normal, you couldn't ask for a nicer time of year. I don't start thinking about Christmas until Halloween has been packed away for another year. Why rush what is a short season!
